Lightning Bets and the Simpsons
The next time you find yourself wishing you could get down to some mobile gambling but your phone lacks power, a lightning bolt might do the trick! The University of Southampton teamed up with Nokia for an experiment, using a transformer and recreating a lightning bolt in a lab by passing 200,000 volts across a 30cm air gap.
While it is a significant discovery that nature can be used in this particular way as a power source, this doesn’t mean we should be wandering around in frustration looking for lightning bolts - whatever the debates are surrounding the pros and cons of online gambling, being struck by lightning after deliberately seeking out one is best avoided.
Given the constant search for effective ways to get the most out of our mobile devices and their batteries, this looks like being quite a game-changer, especially with more remote areas in mind.
From unlikely power sources to an even more bizarre betting market than usual. Popular across the globe, the Simpsons has proved so successful that the biggest stars queue up to make guest appearances. Characters have established iconic status.
Now we can bet on which one will be the next to die! Yes, you did read that correctly. The online bookmakers are in agreement that Sideshow Bob should be the unfortunate market leader, currently best-priced at 7/2 (indeed at the time of writing this is where nearly 40% of the bets have gone…). Abe Simpson can still be backed at 6/1 but is as short as 5/2 elsewhere, while a popular bet a little further down the list is Barney Gumble at 10/1..
