Bookmakers Take X Factor Hit
We pride ourselves at gambling4mobiles for being able to provide a veritable smorgasbord of mobile betting to cater for all tastes, and while fans of the more traditional markets such as sports betting and (in recent years) mobile casinos and Bingo and so on have more experience, we know that there are people still missing out because they don’t realise they could be enjoying fun bets while following their favourite television programmes.
So for those of you with absolutely no interest in the result of England’s fourth and final Test Match against India (and if you have, then 13/8 is the typical pre-match price at the time of writing for an England win with our numerous sports betting partners...) but a habit for tuning into the likes of X Factor, then reality TV offers a chance to make some money while you cringe at the talent/mediocrity on offer
We tend to think that most gamblers are constantly online checking out prices and frantically tapping away at their mobiles armed with expert knowledge and information with which to beat the odds makers. Of course these people do exist, especially as mobile devices nowadays help level the playing field
But if you don’t know the first thing about the offside rule, or think a spin bowler might be a rotating hat, it doesn’t mean you can’t do your bit for mobile betting and use your own kind of expertise to strike a blow for the masses by winning some welcome cash
This year’s X Factor, for example, didn’t go the way UK’s bookmakers would have wished. When James Arthur pipped his friend Jahmene Douglas to the post by being crowned the 2012 winner on Sunday he did so as the 2/5 favourite, with the bookmakers powerless to hold back the tide of bets and votes that flooded in over the weekend (during the last 24 hours of the marathon competition nearly 80% of bets were being placed on Arthur!). An unlikely winner in terms of him arriving for his first audition as an already accomplished artist with a distinctive style, Arthur must have been a nightmare contestant for the bookies. Much the same as the stereotypic ‘granny’ bets for the Grand National, where the betting operators’ biggest fear is that the favourite for the race also happens to have a catchy name that attracts bets from all and sundry, Arthur’s popular performances will have had newcomers to mobile betting on their phones to make what turned out to be profitable introductions to the fun world of mobile gambling. Even the possibility of a lucky escape for the bookmakers failed to materialise when he found himself in the bottom two acts alongside Ella Henderson – another favourite was eliminated, but so early in the competition that it served only to increase the chances of the Saltburn singer acquiring even more votes.
Amazingly, at one point the volume of betting for the Final was so high that bets were being placed every two seconds! Clearly this didn’t consist of number-crunching experts, but a cross-section of the viewing public picking up their mobiles and betting on an essentially simple outcome
Of course the betting for who will make it to the Christmas Number 1 spot is another matter entirely... but if this and other TV events for which partners of gambling4mobiles provide a market is your thing, then it’s well worth putting your viewing experience to good use.
