Following on from research that found first-person shooters like Call of Duty positively affect our visual abilities, recent research at the University of Texas has shown that more complex real-time strategy games might help increase cognitive flexibility. Just an hour per day playing such games is enough to generate improvements in our ability to think quicker and even more accurately, the games helping train “...so many different aspects of cognition at once” according to Brian Glass of Queen Mary University. Moreover, for those of you already experienced with these games, the research also indicated that the more complex the challenge, the greater the cognitive improvement.
The early odds for Celebrity Big Brother on Channel 5 show that the online odds makers are only human. To be fair, it must be difficult to fill in the blanks for this kind of betting market when we need to carry out a search to find out who some of the ‘celebrities’ are (or were). Of course these shows can so easily produce an unlikely winner, and almost anyone has a chance, but former 5ive band member turned gentleman farmer seems a tad overpriced at 14/1, perhaps.
